If you've been curious how Presto Photo compares to Apple's photo book printing, this is the detail filled page for you. PrestoPhoto is a third party printer and not part of Apple. When Apple discontinued printing on September 30, 2018, we updated our features and worked with a large 3rd party print provided to produce books nearly identical to what Apple has produced over that past 16 years.

This update also no longer supports Aperture and iPhoto, so by updating you will lose access to past projects. We suggest you backup all of your photo book projects before updating.
What is Apple Style Binding?
Apple Style Binding is our term for printing the photo books with the specifications previously used by Apple. From cover to the endleaves to the paper type, your photo book will be printed in a style you've come to love.
So, how do the books compare?
Below we have picture comparisons between Presto Photo and Apple showing the similarities and differences between our photo books, specifically comparing a 13x10 (XL) Hardcover Photo Book with Matte Lamination.
In brief:
Dust Jacket Lamination and Headbands/Tailbands on the interior spines of the books.
Cover
Both covers have Matte Lamination added, which is the most popular cover option amongst our customers. Our Matte Lamination is much more matte in comparrison. Apple also has a Silk UV lamination on their Dust Jackets versus our Matte lamination, which we find ours to be the superior look and feel.

Interior Comparisons
The interiors are nearly identical. Apple uses a 65# McCoy Silk Cover for their interior printing, where as we have up to 5 interior paper options depending on the type of book you pick, but for comparrisons sake we used the comparable Premium 150 Photo Paper.

You are correct in your assumption that if you do not purchase a Dust Jacket Cover add-on your Dust Jacket Flap content will not be included. If you do not wish to order a Dust Jacket I would recommend that you do not design Dust Jacket Flaps.
You're able to add Spine Text to your project on the Cover Preview page under the Spine Text tab. You can review steps on how to add this text to a book created in our MacOS Apple Photos Extension here: https://www.prestophoto.com/help/App+Help#AddSpineText
All of our Imagewrap Photobooks include the cover images printing on the cover itself. The Dust Jacket Cover is an optional add-on which provides you with the removable cover with your cover and flap content printed on it.
