No dimesions for your new 11x8.5 photo wrap book
Comment on Book Binding and CoversRe: No dimensions for 11x8.5 photo wrap book
Posted:14 Jan 2010 (17:48 UTC)I'm looking at the cover spec page, where on the 8.5x11 "portrait" it shows the total dimensions as 19.65 x 12.75, including "turn-in (bleed)"...
I mean, there has to be some part of the image that wraps around the edge of the cover board, right? Isn't that the "turn-in" in the dimensions given above? I called them flaps, you call them turn-in.
Let's just take the height given above:
It's 12.75... for an 11" tall cover.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's 1.75" more than 11', so doesn't that go "somewhere"???
I've been back & forth with support for a week, and one reply of theirs was this:
"The exact dimension of your front cover image is 11.25x8.75 so what ever software you use to create your cover image just make the "canvas" 11.25x8.75 and then just have a border so that the area that has your graphics is 7.25x5.75."
That seems absurd. Our graphics have to be in a 7.25x5.75 area on the front of an 11x8.5 cover?
What about the "turn-in" dimensions given on the cover specs page for the portrait?
I've had hardcovers done at other places, and they all have the cover area, then a little more area for the "turn-in"... which seems obvious.
According to support, I would have to shrink my cover image down to 7.25x5.75, and then have all that space out to the edges. Doesn't that seem strange" That can't really be true, can it?

Our books don't have dust jackets, so they don't have flaps. You need to create a cover excluding dimensions with flaps.
If you have anything questions please let us know

Re: No dimensions for 11x8.5 photo wrap book
Posted:13 Jan 2010 (18:44 UTC)I did that - got to the cover stage, got the dimensions, etc.
But those dimensions don't include the foldover flaps.
It seems like you would have less people asking support about this, if you would just have someone take 5 minutes and make a template for this size.
I've even found that the cover preview "squashed" my image vertically, so how can looking at that be correct?
I took a snapshot of it, enlarged it in Photoshop to the actual 300ppi size, and put my original image on a layer above, and saw that the whole image on the preview was squashed from top to bottom.
I keep uploading new cover images after manipulating them to fit, and each time the preview does something different, like pull the image too far to the left-under the spine area, or squash the image. I'm fighting a losing battle.

Posted:08 Dec 2009 (18:02 UTC)Let's see, for all our trim sizes we recommend you make the cover images as well as the interior page images 1/2" larger than your book size. For 11x8.5 the cover image would be 11.25x8.75. Keep all important items (people, heads, text) away from the outer 1/2" on all sides. So for full wrap your cover image would roughly be 24.25x8.75.
If you want to create a full wrap cover — the best thing to do is upload the interior file, and move forward in the book creation process until you get to the cover creation stage of the game. At that point on the "advanced" tab we give you the exact dimensions for your full wrap cover based on the page count for your specific book.
You can then create the cover file and upload.

No dimesions for your new 11x8.5 photo wrap book
Posted:04 Dec 2009 (23:06 UTC)You now have the ability to create an 11x8.5 (11 wide x 8.5 tall) book that has a wrap around picture as the cover, but in your dimensions on the help screen you don't reference what size that needs to be. I am guessing it is 24.65 wide x 10.25 tall based on what you have for the 8.5 x 11. The problem is, when you select the full wrap option, it has the selection for front cover, but as soon as you select the full wrap option, it also enables the button for a back cover. This doesn't make any sense, if you provide your picture that includes the width of the front and back, why would you need to supply a back cover picture?
Please confirm the dimensions I show above are correct and please clarify what we are supposed to submit (front and back, front only, etc.) for the new 11x8.5 book with wrap around hard cover.
Thanks
